Jamie Oliver is a famous restaurateur and celebrity chef. He is popular for English cuisine which had made him well known in various restaurants and television shows. He is also popular as writer and campaigner. Among several works he had done, he is best appreciated by the public for his campaign for school children on healthier diets and famous British television show The Naked Chef.

Early Life

Jamie was born on 27th May 1975 in the United Kingdom in a village named as Clavering, Essex. His original birth name is Jamie Trevor Oliver. His father’s name is Trevor Oliver and mother’s name is Sally Oliver. Both of them owned a restaurant and pub named as The Cricketers where they worked. He and his siblings have raised in their birthplace Clavering, the United Kingdom in a good environment. He gained the knowledge of cooking from his parent as he used to help his mother during her busy time in their restaurant. He attended Newport Free Grammar School for early education and home economics knowledge from City and Guilds NVQ (National Vocational Qualification). He got the official education about culinary and restaurant in 1991 from West-minister Catering College. Both of his knowledge aided him in being the top chef as he is today. He initially entered the chef industry from Antonio Carluccio’s Neal’s Yard restaurant as a pastry chef. He earned the skill of making Italian Cuisine there. Then he got a chance as a sous chef in Fulham, London in The River Café. His television career started in 1999 when he appeared for BBC show the Naked Chef. He was appreciated and loved from his performance which inspired him to write and publish a cookbook. The cookbook became so much popular in the UK and was at first in the bestseller. He got an invitation at 10 Downing Street for preparing lunch for Prime Minister Tony Blair in the same year. In 2000, Sainsbury’s supermarket made an offer to sign a contract worth 2 million $ per year which he agreed and was also busy launching Pukka Tukka which was aired on Channel 4. He also appeared in 52 episodes of Oliver’s Twist showing his cooking skills. He then worked in Jamie’s kitchen series on Channel 4 which was the 15 restaurants in London in 2002. In 2003, Return to Jamie’s Kitchen was aired. Oliver also started a campaign to aware school children and their parents to avoid junk and unhealthy food and prefer consuming healthy nutritious food and named it Feed Me Better campaign which led to British government making a donation of 250 million $ for the children on school dinners. For the campaign, the documentaries were made in which he himself worked on kitchen meals. In 2005, his travelogue series Jamie’s Great Italian Escape was released where he travels throughout places and cooks food.

As his early television entries as cook or host became famous and loved by people, he was approached to work with different shows on different TVs. His Australian show also aired in 2006 as Jamie’s Kitchen Australia. In 2007, he appeared in Jamie’s Chef. He again came up with Jamie’s Return to School Dinners where he again reaches the school where he did the previous campaign and also to other rural schools to advice and check if the children are getting proper hot, healthy, nutritious meals or not. He was also featured in Jamie at Home which was based on the concept of utilising the ingredients of the home garden to prepare recipes along with gardening tips.

In 2008, he appeared in show Jamie’s Fowl Dinners. In 2010, his show Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution aired on ABC in the US.
